Here's what you need to know

Additional Income While Retired

What type of pension is being received?

Standard old-age pension

  • Unlimited additional earnings allowed
  • Pension increase through additional insurance contributions (special higher insurance contribution)

Men: starting atage 65
Women: bornon or before December 31, 1963—starting at age 60,
—followed by a gradual increase to age 65

Early retirement pension(corridor pension, heavy labor pension, etc.)

  • Additional earnings allowed up to the marginal earnings threshold
    • If the marginal earnings threshold is exceeded → complete loss of the pension!
  • No valid business license
  • In general: no mandatory enrollment in the pension insurance system
  • Special provisions for disability, occupational disability, and invalidity pensions—calculation rules!
  • A general 50% reduction in pension contributions (both the employee’s and the employer’s share) for working “pension deferrers” (those who do not receive a pension despite having reached the standard retirement age)
  • Reduction of the compensatory allowance if earned income is received in addition to pension benefits
  • Multiple part-time jobs or a part-time job combined with full insurance coverage: a flat-rate contribution for health insurance (KV) and pension insurance (PV) totaling 14.12%

Multiple part-time jobs:

  • If the total exceeds 1.5 times the marginal employment threshold → flat-rate employer contribution of 19.4% of the contribution base

Voluntary withholding of a “fictitious” tax and transfer to the employees’ tax account.

This means that your employer deducts the tax from your monthly pay and deposits it separately into an account on your behalf. That way, you won’t have to make a large “back payment” at the end of the year—it’s already been taken care of.
